Exploring the American-Made Lighting Solutions from H.E. Williams
When you think of Independence Day, what’s the first thing that comes to mind?
For some, maybe it’s a poolside barbeque with drinks in hand, enjoying the summer day. For others, it could be the bright fireworks and sparklers that light up the night sky. For many, it could also be the bold red, white, and blue colors of the American flag that stand out just a bit more.
For H.E. Williams, Independence Day signifies a celebration of what it means to be American and American-made.
With 100 years under their belt, let’s look back on the H.E.Williams’ history of one family and three generations of American-made success.
The Beginnings
H.E. Williams was founded in 1921 by engineer and entrepreneur Harold E. Williams. By the mid-1920s, H.E. Williams settled comfortably into the automotive industry, creating various gadgets for the automobile experience, but it wouldn’t be until a certain event in 1939 really launched the company onto a new path.
The Spark of Inspiration and Journey
During the 1939 World’s Fair in New York City, Williams was drawn in by the fluorescent lamps showcased, and with this motivation, began engineering fixtures to help control the light source.
By the 1940s, fluorescent fixtures became a staple of H.E. Williams, to the point that the products were exhibited at industry trade shows, and lighting was now at the forefront of the business. Business would only continue to expand!
The industry standard of outlet and switch boxes with preset nails was all thanks to Williams, developed in the 1950s. Outside of engineering, designing also became an element within the company, and by the 1960s, operations finally moved to its current location on Fairview Avenue. The business was booming with new products pushed for educational and office spaces, as well as retail shops, and in the 1970s, the first quick-ship stocking program was introduced in the company.
In the 1980s, Williams’ son, John, became CEO and immediately worked to figure out what made H.E. Williams connect best with its clients. This would be the start of a focus on product quality and customer service. Innovation continued in the 80s with a new powder-coat paint system, which helped make the company stand out from its competitors.
Following John, his son Mark would become the next CEO for H.E. Williams in the 1990s and continued to push the company’s productivity with the first CNC machinery, enabling a quicker and more efficient product line. Modernization was key in the 1990s and would continue into the 200s. The facility gained an incredible 300,000 square feet upgrade, including a customer experience center, new fabrication equipment, assembly lines, and more!
H.E. Williams Today
Holding the same passionate drive as their founder, H.E. Williams celebrates their legacy by using the newest technology in the industry, and the company has been able to adapt their production process and create a standout portfolio!
The Made Right Here Difference
But product efficiency is not the company’s only goal; H.E. Williams recognizes that their work cannot be enjoyed without a happy consumer base, so they strive to treat every order like it’s the only order. Independently owned and American-made, H.E. Williams stands out because they are easier to do business with and can quickly connect to solve their clients’ problems. With their fixtures made, start to finish, by the hardworking men and women in their company, it’s easy to see how H.E. Williams has and will continue to exceed client standards.
After 100 years, three generations, and overcoming a global pandemic, H.E. Williams is proud to celebrate their American legacy by continuing to innovate and in the most creative, and efficient ways.
